No-contract wireless broadband
I recently got one of these (USB modem) for travel and for backup at home, in case my regular IP fails. The wireless broadband service is from Millenicom, which makes use of Verizon's EVDO Rev-A network, at least in my case. The biggest selling point for me was that the service requires no contract. The rate is $60/month, and reviews and speed reports are satisfactory. Millenicom does not advertise a bandwidth usage limit, but reports have it that it is really the carrier which determines if limits are imposed or not. Anyway, I'm giving it a try, and we'll see how it goes. It should at least pay for itself after a couple of stays at those hotels which inexplicably charge for internet access, assuming I get decent signals. And if things don't work out, I can cancel the service anytime with no penalties. What a concept.
